We’re delighted to share the news that Dr Lucy Baldwin is joining the Working Chance team as an ambassador. She’ll be championing Working Chance, promoting the charity to her professional networks and sharing in our vision and values.
Dr Lucy Baldwin has had a 30-year career in criminal and social justice, is a qualified social worker and probation officer, and a recently retired associate professor from Durham University.
She is a leading academic on the topic of parental imprisonment, with published work including ‘Motherhood In and After Prison’ in 2022 and 'Pregnancy and New Motherhood in Prison', with Laura Abbott, in 2023. Lucy’s recommendations informed the Female Offender Strategy and she gave evidence to both the female-focused Farmer Review and the Joint Human Rights Inquiry into Maternal Imprisonment and the Rights of the Child.
Lucy has presented nationally and internationally on the importance of working positively with mothers in criminal and social justice systems. She works closely with policy makers, government officials, the third sector, and directly with criminalised women.
Dr Lucy Baldwin says:
“I am honoured and excited to be an ambassador and a champion for Working Chance, an organisation I have referred many women to over the years, many of whom have now gone on to have successful careers in a variety of fields including criminal justice. Working Chance plays such an important role in assisting those who have been in contact with the justice system to build their confidence and to move forward in hope, productivity and success. I am delighted to be on board.”
Our chief executive, Natasha Finlayson, says:
“Lucy’s extensive knowledge, insights and passion for improving the experience of mothers in the justice system will be an invaluable addition to our charity. We are so pleased that she has agreed to come on board as our first ambassador, and we look forward to a really positive partnership.”
Working Chance will be announcing further ambassadors later this year, from diverse spheres of life including the justice system, employment and recruitment.
