On the 8th March 2020, to celebrate International Women's Day, Pret A Manger generously donated all sales of their gingerbread biscuits, Annie and Godfrey, to Working Chance. We're delighted to announce that together with their customers, this helped to raise £1,500 in support of our ground-breaking work helping women with convictions to escape the cycle of poverty, social exclusion and crime.
This money will help us address the urgent needs of women who are particularly vulnerable during this difficult time. Our wrap-around rehabilitation and employability support enables women to overcome barriers to employment and become financially independent. Women with convictions often face multiple disadvantage and many are affected by poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse and/or mental illness. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, we are continuing to provide vital services to our service users and ensuring that they have the right support in place.
Pret A Manger have long shared our belief that your past shouldn't stop you from fulfilling your potential. They have been strong supporters of our work for many years, whether it be by hiring the women we support, raising money for us, volunteering or by catering for our employability workshops. In fact, since 2011 Pret A Manger have hired 110 women with convictions through Working Chance. including women who are allowed to leave prison on day release. Together, we are providing women with the tools they need to reintegrate into society and succeed in life.
A big thank you to everyone who bought a gingerbread Annie this International Women's Day!
