We're looking for an HR Specialist Trustee

  • Role: HR specialist trustee (unremunerated, but reasonable expenses are covered).
  • Deadline for applications: 10am on Tuesday 6 May

Are you interested in helping transform the lives of women with convictions? Do you share our vision of a society in which no woman is held back by a conviction? If the answer’s yes, and you’re also an HR expert, we’d love to hear from you!

Our cause is an important one because women with criminal convictions often face social exclusion and prejudice, as well as multiple obstacles to employment and financial independence.

  • Women who receive convictions are highly likely to be victims as well as offenders.
  • Over 60% of women in contact with the criminal justice system have experienced domestic abuse at the hands of their partners.
  • Crimes committed by women are more likely to be driven by poverty than those committed by men.

Working Chance gave me hope that my life's not ended. I'm feeling so positive. It's unbelievable that I've found a job. I've got so much hope for the future.

As one of our Trustees, you will play a vital role in the leadership of the charity and importantly, act as a visible role model for our values and culture. Along with your fellow Trustees, you’ll contribute to the strategic governance of the organisation.

The successful candidate is likely to be working - or have worked - at a senior level in HR. A strong understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion would be an advantage. As well as general trustee responsibilities, we're looking for someone to chair our quarterly People Committee, contribute to board discussions on people issues, and act as a sounding board for our Senior HR Manager and Chief Executive when needed.

We believe that by having a diverse group of people on our Trustee Board we can collectively make better decisions and better serve our beneficiaries. We want to achieve a better balance in the voices on our Board by recruiting people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and people with lived experience of the criminal justice system, so we particularly encourage expressions of interest from people from those groups.
